A Russian poster campaign depicting US President Barack Obama dragging on a cigarette is striking the balance of simultaneously trolling the US president and trying to slash the number of people smoking.
Pasted on the side of a Moscow bus station, the image of Obama is accompanied with the words: “Smoking kills more people than Obama, although he kills lots and lots of people.”
It adds: “Don’t smoke, don’t be like Obama.”
The poster was brought to international attention by Russian politician Dmitry Gudkov, who shared a photo of it on his official Facebook page, calling the image “disgusting” and “embarrassing”.
US backed sanctions against Russia means Obama is often the subject of ridicule in Russia, where he is labeled a “shmuck”.
A mocked up satellite image of a Russian airfield in Syria emblazoned with the message: “Obama shmuck” typifies the negative attitude towards the outgoing US President.
A "blame Obama" culture has also seen people in Russia hold the US president responsible for potholes and annoying disruptions like roadworks.
A doctored US presidential campaign photo from eight years ago replacing the word "Hope" with "Killer" was also hung from a building close to the US embassy in Moscow.
