A total solar eclipse took place in Indonesia and Southeast Asia on Tuesday, and although the eclipse was only visible in a 100 mile stretch, many people captured images the whole world is sharing.

Solar eclipses have been a part of many cultures. Some legends focus on the sun being devoured by an angry animal or God that must be defeated; others play on the relationship between the sun and the moon.
