Up to 40 people suffered burns, following a liquefied gas explosion at a petrol station in the town of Kizlyar, in Russia’s southern Dagestan republic.
An initial blast rang out at 18:25 local time, when a fuel truck exploded as it was pumping gas into a reservoir tank. Eyewitnesses told local media that vibrations from the detonation could be felt up to 10 kilometers away.
Onlookers gathered to record the flames with their smartphones, only to be exposed to several more explosions, as fire spread through the fuel tanks.
Four fire engines arrived at the scene within 20 minutes, and it took them 30 minutes to extinguish the flames.
