A number of cars parked in the Brussels municipality of Saint Gilles went ablaze late on Wednesday, with footage uploaded on social media showing large fire and sounds of explosions. The cause of the fire has not been immediately clear.
Several fire trucks have been sent to the scene to deal with the fires. The area of the incident is located just south of the center of Brussels.
Images coming from Brussels showed thick smoke rising from blazing cars.
The fire has since been successfully put out.
Local authorities said that there was criminal intent behind the car fires, but added that a terrorist threat has been ruled out. Eight cars were affected and no injuries reported.
