A total of 22 people were injured when the floor of a nightclub collapsed on the Spanish island of Tenerife. Several people were left with injuries including broken bones and severe trauma.

The floor of the Butterfly gay club gave away at around 2.30am Sunday. Revellers plunged one storey and crashed into the basement below.

The island’s fire brigade released photos and videos showing the extent of the damage. The footage shows that the floor caved in entirely, leaving pulverized concrete and rubble piled up on the floor below.

“The firefighters carried out inspections and removed debris to guarantee no one was still trapped inside. A total of 22 people were injured and were transferred to hospital,” the fire brigade said in a statement.

Local newspaper Diario de Avisos reported that two of the injured suffered serious trauma, while six more had moderate trauma and another 14 suffered other minor injuries. Council officials are due to examine the building to ensure there is no further risk of another collapse.
