The payment problem has led to countless issues for consumers at tills and in restaurants around Europe. It sparked a rash of activity on social media with many complaining about the inconvenience caused by the service disruption.
However many others saw the funny side of the situation, responding to the chaos by sharing gifs and memes which suggest that humanity is returning to the days of physical cash or even a system of bartering.
