In June this year, at least 18 people were killed in an explosion that occurred in a crowded area outside of the governor’s compound in the capital Jalalabad. The attack, allegedly carried out by a suicide bomber who blew himself up in a crowd of people, came in the last hours of the ceasefire between the Taliban insurgents and the government forces.
