WATCH: Rescue chopper flies into electricity wires, sending crew plummeting into the sea
A rescue helicopter flew straight into live electricity wires during a daring rescue mission, causing two people to fall into the sea. One eyewitness below caught the terrifying ordeal on camera.
The helicopter had been carrying out a sea rescue operation at Fond Bellemare on the island of Martinique when the horrifying accident occurred.
A member of the rescue crew was suspended from the helicopter on a rope along with one of the people that was being rescued, when the chopper suddenly flew into three high voltage electricity wires, causing sparks to fly. The wires were slashed on impact and both suspended people fell from the rope and into the sea.
The pilot managed to steady the chopper and landed safely. Somehow, no one was seriously injured in the incredibly close call.
Meanwhile, the fallen live wires fell onto a nearby road, causing hours of traffic delays.
