A 15-year-old teenager was killed and at least nine people were injured, two critically, after several vehicles fell into the Tarn river when a suspension bridge collapsed north of Toulouse early Monday morning.
The collapse is said to have taken place at roughly 8:30am local time. The teenager was in a car with her parents.
According to early indications, a large, overweight truck which was beyond the legal limit may have been responsible for the collapse but an investigation has yet to be completed.
There were about 80 firefighters at the scene and the local gendarmerie set up a security cordon. Two firefighters have reportedly ben seriously injured during the operation.
So far, four people have been rescued, but several more are still unaccounted for.
Authorities asked the public to avoid the area while emergency operations were under way.
