The moment police arrested a car driver who sped though a pedestrian area in the German town of Trier, killing at least four people and injuring several others, has been allegedly caught on video and shared online.
The clip circulating on social media appears to show three officers pinning the suspect to the ground and handcuffing him as several others secure the perimeter.
The dark grey Range Rover, which was apparently used in the attack, was also captured in the footage. The police allegedly had to ram the vehicle with a car in order to stop it.
Another video allegedly shows four officers carrying the detained man into a building.
The car in the video matches the description of the one that witnesses said drove through a pedestrian area in central Trier at high speed on Tuesday. People were “flying into the air” after being hit by the SUV, the witnesses said.
The incident left at least two people dead and 15 others injured, Wolfram Leibe, the Trier mayor, said. The death toll later rose to four people, with a child being among the victims, according to reports by the German media.
The suspect is a 51-year-old male resident of the Trier-Saarburg area, the police said on Twitter.

Other clips captured the destruction caused by the SUV, showing overturned tables and chairs from outdoor cafes and debris on the pavement.
The police have cordoned off the city’s center, while they investigate the circumstances and the driver’s possible motive.
