Games of the Future organizers are ready to help banned Latvian athletes
Igor Stolyarov, the head of the Games of the Future project, says the event’s organizers are ready to provide assistance to Latvian and Estonian phygital athletes, should they need it. The two Baltic states’ hockey federations stripped their players of their licenses for participating in the Russia-hosted innovative tournament.
“We didn’t issue any public statements or comment the actions of the Estonian and Latvian authorities. We asked the athletes if we could do anything to support them. Thank God this issue has died down naturally, and I hope they have no further problems. If we can do anything to help, they need only get in touch,” Stolyarov said, according to TASS.
The Games of the Future is an innovative international tournament of 21 disciplines held in Kazan from February 21 to March 3, 2024. More than 2,000 athletes from around the world are taking part in the competition.
The Games of the Future combine competitions in the physical and digital domains, ‘phygital’ (physical + digital), testing athletes’ skills in the real and virtual worlds.
