Trump’s chances of winning ‘over 95%’ – NYT

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is “very likely” to return to the White House after taking the lead over Democratic rival Kamala Harris in seven swing states, according to a projection by the New York Times.

The newspaper has put Trump’s chances of winning the election at more than 95%, estimating that he has secured 306 electoral college votes out of 270 required for victory, compared to 232 for Harris.

Along with other US media, the NYT has suggested that Trump won the vote in the battleground states of North Carolina and Georgia by a three-percent margin, after more than 95% of ballots have been counted. The projected victory in Georgia would contrast with the results of the 2020 election, when Democrat Joe Biden narrowly won the state.

The NYT estimate also suggested that other swing states – Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – were leaning in Trump’s favor.

Meanwhile, US media has also projected that the Republicans will take control of the Senate with 51 seats, while inching closer to maintaining their hold on the House of Representatives.
