Man with machete arrested at US Capitol
US Capitol Police have detained a man who tried to enter the legislative complex with a machete and three knives in his bags.
The incident took place hours before President-elect Donald Trump arrived at the Capitol on Wednesday to pay his respects to late 39th president, Jimmy Carter, and meet with a number of Republican senators, according to NBC News.
Security staff noticed the bladed weapon in the bag of a man who tried to enter the Capitol Visitor Center around 2pm local time on Wednesday, police said in a statement. After the man was detained, three knives were also found in the bag.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, faces multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon, police said.

Carter passed away on December 29 at the age of 100. His casket was brought to the Capitol on Tuesday, where it is scheduled to lie in state until Thursday morning. His state funeral will be held at Washington National Cathedral.
On Monday, a joint session of Congress certified Trump’s Electoral College victory in the 2024 presidential election, clearing the way for his inauguration on January 20.
