Soviet and U.S. veterans of World War II have gathered at Virginia's Arlington cemetery to mark the anniversary of the Elbe link-up. To the sounds of the last post they laid wreaths of red carnations at the Spirit of the Elbe Memorial.

On April 25, 1945, Soviet and U.S. forces met across the Elbe River in Torgau, Germany. It was the first meeting between the Western and Eastern allies in their fight against Nazi Germany.
