Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi will remain in hospital at least until Wednesday, as doctors say his condition is worse than they thought, after being attacked at a political rally in Milan.
Italian Prime minister Silvio Berlusconi was attacked following a political rally in Milan on Sunday. 73-year-old Berlusconi was signing autographs when he was assaulted on Sunday.
He was hit in the face from the crowd by a small but blunt model of the Milan Cathedral. The attacker, Massimo Tartaglia, was arrested at the scene. He is a 42-year-old Milanese who has been treated by a psychiatrist for 10 years. He has been charged with aggravated assault.
Berlusconi suffered blood-loss, a broken nose, two broken teeth and a cut lip. He was immediately taken to Milan's San Rafaelle hospital.
Massimo Tartaglia has apologized for what he described as his "cowardly and inconsiderate act."
