A team from Scotland Yard is in Moscow to continue the investigation into the death of former Russian security officer Aleksandr Litvinenko. British officials say they will stay in the Russian capital as long as necessary.
The team consisting of 15 special agents with great experience in working on anti-terrorism cases will be working closely with the Russian General Attorney's Office. They are going to question a number of Russian citizens, including Andrey Lugovoy, a security officer, who flew from Moscow to London 4 times in October and met with Boris Berezovsky and Aleksandr Litvinenko. The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying it will also assist the agents and prolong their visas if that is required.Peter Lavelle, our political commentator, thinks Russia has good reasons to provide all possible assistance to the team.“Russia needs to be able to show the world that it’s open, to have this case resolved. There were a lot of accusations, theories and conspiracies out there. I say, let’s let the experts decide. Russia has every single interest to have this as open and transparent as possible,” he said.
