Three injured in Grozny terror blast
Three policemen have been injured in a suicide bomb attack that hit the Chechnya republic capital Grozny.
According to the republic’s Interior Ministry, a bomber detonated an explosive device attached to himself while the policemen were trying to detain him. The body of the terrorist was completely destroyed except for his head.
All three policemen were taken to the hospital, with two of them reportedly in a serious condition. Authorities said that no civilians were injured.
Interfax news agency quoted a source in Russia’s Investigative Committee as saying that the bomber was a young man, not a woman as some media reports suggested.
”At 8am, 100 meters from the Bilimkhanov stadium, policemen noticed a young man who was behaving suspiciously,” the source said. ”When he understood that he would be detained, he blew himself up near a police patrol.”
A criminal case has been launched into the attack and investigators are working towards identifying the terrorist.
