Greek and Turkish Cypriots have reopened a major crossing for the first time in 44 years in the divided capital of Nicosia.

Ledra Street, which runs through a UN-controlled buffer zone, becomes the sixth point where people can cross between the Greek Cypriot south and the Turkish occupied north. The city's mayor, Eleni Mavrou, said Cyprus had a long way to go before reunification, but the opening of Ledra Street is a step in the right direction.
