Traces of sperm found on the shirt of a maid who is reported to have been sexually assaulted in the hotel room of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, appears to match the DNA sample provided to the police by the former head of the International Monetary Fund.
The test result is the first forensic evidence linking the suspected rapist with the alleged victim, the Associated Press reports. The news agency cited two sources familiar with investigation as saying that police are testing a piece of carpet and a sink swabbed for more traces, which could have resulted from the suspect performing oral sex in the hotel room. The results of the test have not been officially released.Earlier, lawyers for Strauss-Kahn said in court that the evidence in the case "will not be consistent with a forcible encounter." This may signal that his lawyers plan a defense based on consensual sex, according to the Wall Street Journal.The newspaper also says that eyewitnesses told police that the former French finance minister had brief contact with the maid as he was leaving the Sofitel New York hotel after the reported encounter had already occured.Strauss-Kahn, 62, has been indicted on Thursday for sexual assault and attempted rape. The 32-year-old alleged victim told police that she was assaulted after she entered Strauss-Kahn’s hotel room to clean it.Strauss-Kahn subsequently resigned from his position as the head of the International Monetary Fund amid the scandal. He is now in New York and confined to his house after being released on a multimillion dollar bail.
