It's not the first time authorities in Georgia have taken control of the opposition-leaning station. They stormed the building during anti-government rallies in November last year, taking it off the air completely. A month later the station was allowed back on air. The Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office had claimed Patarkatsishvili was using Imedi for criminal purposes. The station’s management, however, declared in mid-December that Imedi would stop broadcasting in protest against the actions of the authorities accusing them of blackmailing and bribing their journalists.
