Authorities in Kyrgyzstan are investigating a shooting incident between Russian military officers and local police. The military men were from a Russian air force base in the town of Kant around 20 kilometres east of the capital, Bishkek.

According to officials, a car with Russian officers failed to stop at a traffic police post. Kyrgyz police say when they stopped the car, the passengers resisted arrest causing the police to use force. A round was shot into the air before police started firing on the officers. One of them was injured and is currently in a serious but stable condition at a hospital in Bishkek. The Russian Embassy says the police did not show any ID during the incident.
