It was instituted by the American Arab Anti Discrimination Committee, the largest Arab-American civil rights group in the U.S., The lawsuit asks the court for an emergency order to request a ceasefire and stop shipment of weapons and other military support during the evacuation of the approximately 12,000 U.S. citizens still remaining in Lebanon. Detroit has the largest Arab-American population in the U.S. and the evacuees who returned home want the U.S. to stop assisting Israel's war effort. With the escalation of violence continuing in the region, the American Arab Anti Discrimination Committee hopes that with the filing of this lawsuit it would put additional pressure on the Bush Administration to safely evacuate the remaining U.S. citizens still trapped in Lebanon.
