Russian president awards best hospitals for veterans

On the eve of the 65th anniversary of Russia's victory over Nazism, Dmitry Medvedev has awarded the best hospitals among those providing medical services to war veterans.

Ten million roubles have been allocated from the president’s reserve for the winners of the competition. Monetary prizes will be given to medical personnel of these medical organizations.

Dmitry Medvedev has personally visited a number of hospitals and talked to patients.

Only five have made it onto the shortlist for the award.

In total, Russia has approximately 65 hospitals across the country specifically treating veterans of the Second World War.

Tatyana Golikova, from the Ministry of Public Health and Social Development, said that not all of them are in a proper condition. She called on the heads of regions to allocate money for major repairs and maintenance of the hospitals for veterans.
