Nationalists end Labour dominance in Scottish parliament

Scottish nationalists have achieved a historic triumph in election results, winning 47 seats in the Scottish Parliament, as British Prime Minister Tony Blair's Labour party suffered losses across Britain.

The pro-independence Scottish Nationalist Party ended more than half a century of Labour dominance in Scotland.

The Prime Minister's party also suffered a heavy defeat in local council elections in England and lesser losses in elections to the Welsh assembly.

The results come just days before Blair is expected to announce his plans to step down, possibly in July, following a decade in power.
