Russian military prosecutors are checking claims that an army conscript, Roman Rudakov, who was treated in hospital, became seriously ill as a result of military hazing. Instances of ill-treatment are rife in Russian army.
At least 1,000 conscripts in the Russian armed forces are reported to die each year in non-combat incidents. As for Roman Rudakov, 4 months after the first operation he remained in intensive care and needed another urgent operation. Campaigners claim the 20-year-old army conscript was beaten and refused medical assistance while in the army.Although their claims have yet to be investigated, the possibility of Roman Rudakov turning out to be a new victim of organised bullying in the Russian army appear to be quite high.
