Rare tornado hits Georgia
In what local authorities are describing as a first-time meteorological event, a tornado on Monday touched down in Georgia.
The Interfax news agency, quoting local officials, said the storm, which occurred in the Tsalendzikhsky and Zugdidsky districts, lasted about 15 minutes.
“Eyewitnesses said the sky suddenly darkened and a tornado funnel started breaking trees and lifting up roofs,” a representative of the local administration said.
There were no reported injuries, but the tornado destroyed power lines and damaged over 100 houses.
