Chaos came to Tokyo as large areas were left without electricity after builders damaged a power line. It happened in the morning rush-hour as commuters headed for work and offices were opening.
More than 100,000 were hit by train delays and hundreds were trapped in lifts. Around 800,000 homes were affected. Power lines were damaged by a crane aboard a ship on the Kyu Edo river. By noon, supplies were working again and most transport was back to normal.
