Victor Sumsky, a political analyst from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, believes that the continuous practice of protectionism may probably be a necessary measure for the crisis period.
On Saturday, Dmitry Medvedev called for the lifting of trade restrictions at the APEC summit in Singapore.
“Everybody today is condemning protectionism and praising trade, and this is actually a part of global political correctness. But everybody is sill practicing protectionism and this will probably remain for the period of the crisis,” Sumsky told RT. “If we look at the Medvedev article published prior to the APEC summit, we will see the statements that basically protectionism is not the way to go in the long run. For the crisis period, however, protectionist measures have to be taken.”
