Russia sends more nuclear fuel to Iran

Eleven tonnes of nuclear fuel from Russia have arrived in Iran for the Bushehr nuclear power plant. This shipment is the fourth batch with four more expected in the coming months. Russia has reportedly promised a total of 85 tonnes of fuel for the plant.

The decision to deliver the fuel was made after months of wrangling over alleged missed payments and construction delays. The power plant is expected to start operating in the middle of 2008. The Bushehr plant has caused friction between Russia and some western powers, who insist Tehran is aiming at a nuclear weapon. However the country insists the nuclear plant is solely aimed at peaceful purposes.
