Russian Parliament's lower house, the Duma, is considering three ways to deal with Georgia's breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
Recognising their independence immediately is one of the options. The Head of Duma's committee on CIS Affairs says the second option is to look at recognising their status at sometime in the future. The third scenario would be to leave the current status of the unrecognised republics unchanged, while developing other forms of relations with them including the setting up of Russian missions.
