The Swiss city of Basel is busy getting ready for an influx of football fans for Euro-2008. And law enforcers are taking no chances. With legendary national meticulousness, they have prepared a jail especially for hooligans, reports Basler Zeitung newspap
The prison, located in a reconstructed 19th century building, can hold up to 350 troublemakers. But the hosts have made sure conditions won’t be too tough. Although inmates will not be allowed to leave, they will be relatively comfortable. Swiss Army personnel will take on the guarding duties along with police officers. The ancient prison will be demolished to make way for a hospital after the championship is over.
