A massive tornado has swept through eastern Japan, killing a teenager and injuring dozens of others. The twister ripped roofs of buildings, smashed windows and toppled heavy billboards.
The 14-year-old died of injuries received when the roof of a house collapsed.The raging vortex severely damaged over 500 residential buildings, the Japanese Emergency Ministry reported.The tornado resulted in massive power cuts – some 20,000 houses have been left without electricity.The small city of Tsukuba, not far from Tokyo, has suffered the most damage. Local TV released footage from Tsukuba showing almost completely-destroyed buildings and overturned cars in the streets.The National Meteorology Department has issued a storm warning for 25 out of 47 prefectures in Japan.
