Snowden’s actions are sincere, Apple co-founder and computer engineer Steve Wozniak told RT’s Oksana Boyko, adding that he himself hopes to have the courage to make an equivalent sacrifice if needed out of love for his country.
“I believe he’s a hero. I believe he is coming directly from
his heart and he feels some goodness, he wants to be truthful to
the American people,” Wozniak told RT in an exclusive
interview on “Worlds Apart”.
The world famous inventor of Apple computers added that he doesn’t have the same kind of information to expose government’s bad activities, although if “there was anything in my life that I could do equivalent to [Snowden’s] sacrifice - I would do it”.
Edward Snowden, the NSA whistleblower and former CIA employee has
been recently presented the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in
Intelligence award in Moscow. The prize is named after Samuel A.
Adams, a CIA whistleblower during the Vietnam War, and has been
annually given since 2002 to people operating within the
intelligence community who stand up to abuse of information
gathering.
Wozniak, a significant contributor to the microcomputer revolution that changed our world, noted that Snowden took “a very drastic step” by leaking the data on the US intelligence spying program.
Boyko also discussed with the computer genius also known as
"Woz" the role of major tech companies in governments’
surveillance programs.
They raised the issue of Apple and Google’s compliance with the NSA PRISM surveillance program, while talking about the idealistic beginnings, when you start a company from scratch and what it all can lead to.
Wozniak also spoke about the history of Apple Inc., touching on
the delicate issue of his relations with his business partner and
the face of the company Steve Jobs, who died in October 2011.
Hold your breath for the 'Wizard of Woz' episode of RT’s Worlds
Apart with Oksana Boyko, to be aired on Sunday.
