Six Russian Tu-22M3 long-range bombers have conducted an airstrike against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorists in north-eastern Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday. The strategic aircraft, which flew to Syria from Russia, targeted terrorist outposts and hardware. “All the designated targets have been destroyed, which was confirmed through the objective control measures,” the Ministry noted. Russian Su-30SM and Su-30S fighter jets scrambled from the Khmeimim Airbase in western Syria gave cover for the long-range bombers. All the planes have returned to their bases following the successful mission.
