Kuwait invites Qatar to Gulf summit despite boycott
Kuwait on Thursday invited Qatar to a summit of Gulf countries next week, in the first such invitation in a months-long Saudi-led diplomatic boycott of Doha, AFP reports. Kuwait, which is not among the Arab states boycotting Qatar, invited Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Haman Al-Thani to the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council on December 5 and 6, according to KUNA news agency. In June, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt cut all ties with Qatar over accusations Doha supported extremism and was close to Shiite Iran. Qatar denies the allegations.
