Courts in the US cannot hold Turkey accountable for allegedly violating sanctions against Iran, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday, according to Reuters. He told members of his ruling AK Party in the north-eastern province of Kars that US courts "can never try my country." Erdogan was referring to the ongoing trial of Turkish-Iranian gold dealer Reza Zarrab, who is cooperating with American prosecutors. Zarrab accused several Turkish officials, including Erdogan and some of his ministers, of taking part in a covert scheme to circumvent the sanctions. The case has further strained ties between Turkey and the US, with Ankara accusing Washington of attempting to undermine its economy.
