Uber settles US lawsuit filed by Indian rape victim
Uber has agreed to settle a US lawsuit filed by an Indian woman who accused the company’s executives of illegally obtaining her medical records from Delhi police. Terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, but what is known is that the woman alleged in the lawsuit that Uber had violated her privacy and defamed her character. In 2014, the 26-year-old woman, who later moved to Texas, anonymously filed a case in which she said she had been taken to a secluded area and raped by an Uber driver, Shiv Kumar Yadav, who in 2015 was sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime.
