Turkey will open embassy in east Jerusalem – Erdogan
Turkey will open its embassy in East Jerusalem, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised. “We have already declared East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state but we haven’t been able to open our embassy there because Jerusalem is currently under occupation. God willing, we will open our embassy there,” Erdogan said as cited by Hurriyet newspaper. Earlier this week, Turkey hosted an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), during which the 57 member countries acknowledged East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state. Erdogan has been among the most vocal critics of US President Donald Trump after he acknowledged Jerusalem as the Israeli capital earlier this month, saying the US move should be annulled and slamming Israel as a “terrorist state.”
