UN urges world to boost help for refugees in Africa
The UN refugee chief has urged the international community to commit more resources to helping refugees in Africa, AP reported. Filippo Grandi added that “it is very difficult to fund programs in Africa. I am not ashamed to say it.” Millions of people across the continent have been displaced due to armed conflicts. Grandi made the statement on Tuesday while visiting the Kenyan refugee camp for Somalis known as Dadaab. It is one of the world’s largest camps, with over 230,000 inhabitants. Kenya’s government wants Dadaab shut down, but the UN says all repatriations must be voluntary.
