Japanese city protests as US military parachute falls on school grounds
The administration of Japan’s city of Hamura in the prefecture of Tokyo has sent a message of protest to the government and to US military command after an American parachute fell on the grounds of a school on Tuesday. The Defense Ministry was informed by the US Air Force that the incident, in which no one was hurt, occurred during parachute-drop training, Kyodo said. A local junior high school in the western part of the Japanese capital had earlier reported that what appeared to be a parachute had landed on its tennis courts. Yokota Air Base is located nearby. There have been a string of similar incidents involving the US military in recent times.
