French President Emmanuel Macron has said that Europeans needed to urgently agree on a roadmap to reform the eurozone currency and economic union. He also said on Tuesday that France was ready to increase its contribution to the European Union budget, on condition that it becomes more efficient. In Germany, the Social Democrats increased pressure on Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives to back proposals to reform the eurozone, as agreed in their coalition deal. The conservatives want to restrict Merkel’s room to maneuver on eurozone reform, according to documents seen by Reuters on Monday. These documents could further frustrate Macron, who visits Berlin later this week.
