5 officers killed after Maoist rebels detonate bomb in eastern India
At least five officers were killed and two others injured after Maoist rebels bombed a police vehicle in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh state in eastern India, police say. A land mine detonated when an armored vehicle ran over it. Two injured officers were taken to hospital in critical condition. The insurgency against the government by militants, inspired by Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Zedong, has persisted in the country since 1967. The conflict in its present form started after 2004.
