The Egyptian government has submitted its resignation to the country’s reelected president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, a statement by the president’s office said. The move is considered routine, as Sisi, who was sworn in for his second term last week, is going to form a new cabinet. The 63-year-old won a landslide victory in the election in March, claiming 97.08 percent of the ballot. Sisi’s only opponent was his close ally, Moussa Mostafa Moussa, while the opposition candidates missed out on the election for various reasons.
