10 people killed as landslide & flood sweep through northeastern Afghanistan
At least 10 people were killed and scores are missing after a landslide broke a natural dam in Panjshir province, northeastern Afghanistan early on Thursday, local media reported officials as saying. The devastating landslide was triggered by the melting of an ice cap on a nearby mountain. More than 400 houses were either destroyed or damaged in one village, while two districts were cut off, according to Deputy Provincial Governor Mohammad Amin Sediqqi, as cited by Tolo. The official warned that the number of casualties may rise.
