Some 200 protesters gathered at the main entrance to the Siba natural gas field in the southern Iraqi province of Basra, Reuters reported, cited police sources. Oil-rich Basra is one of the southern Iraqi cities that have recently witnessed mass protests over the dire state of the nation’s economy. The demonstrators are rallying against poor public services and corruption. On Sunday, at least six people were injured as they tried to storm the main provincial government building in Basra.
