US lawmakers have approved a resolution authorizing the Senate Intelligence Committee to provide an attorney of Russian gun rights activist Maria Butina, charged with acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government in the US, with a transcript of her 8-hour interview to the committee. Butina was grilled by the committee back in April. Her attorney, Robert Driscoll, earlier told RT that the 29-year-old Russian national “voluntarily testified for the committee,” produced “thousands of documents” and explained “basically all the types of allegations” against her during the interview. The transcript will be made available both to Driscoll and the US court handling the case. The testimony, however, will not be made public, Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Mark Warner (D-VA) said in a statement on Wednesday. Butina was arrested on July 15 in Washington and will remain in custody pending trial.
