Mexico minister says bilateral NAFTA issues with US may be solved ‘in hours’
Mexico’s Economy Minister Ildefonso Guajardo said on Wednesday that the country could resolve its outstanding bilateral issues with the United States over the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in the next few hours or days. “We hope that we’ll have a solution in the next couple of hours, or the next couple of days,” Guajardo told reporters before entering the offices of US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer for NAFTA talks. Since restarting last month, the talks have focused on ironing out differences between Mexico and the US which cut to the heart of US President Donald Trump’s complaint that NAFTA has hollowed out US manufacturing to Mexico’s benefit, Reuters said.
