Brazilian police apprehended 1,027 adults and 75 teenagers on Friday, local media reported, citing figures from the Ministry of Public Security. The large-scale sweep, dubbed ‘Operation Chronos,’ was prompted by a recent spike in violent crime. Some 225 of the detainees were arrested on murder charges, while 14 others were charged specifically with killing women, and 143 are being held in relation to domestic violence. Other suspects have been detained on criminal charges involving drug-dealing and illegal firearms possession.
