France hosts G7 foreign ministers’ meeting, Pompeo won’t attend

France offered a wary welcome to foreign ministers from the G7 on Friday for a meeting overshadowed by a snub from Donald Trump’s US administration, Britain’s Brexit issues, and months of anti-government protests at home. Protesters spray-painted slogans attacking President Emmanuel Macron in the sleepy coastal resort of Dinard, where the ministers were due to gather, Reuters reports. The ministers will set the agenda for their leaders at the annual high-power summit in August. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not attend and is sending a deputy. The agenda includes cyber security and foreign interference in democracies, countering trafficking in the Sahel, and inequality.
