Erdogan’s party calls for full vote recount in narrowly lost Istanbul ballot
The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will ask the national electoral board to recount all votes cast in Istanbul’s 39 voting districts during recent local elections, deputy chairman Ail Ihsan Yavuz told reporters. According to preliminary results, the party narrowly lost the office of the mayor of Istanbul to opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) last Sunday. The gap is less than 0.3 percent points. AKP previously asked for a recount in some parts of the capital, but are now looking for a full recount to “eliminate numerical mistakes” according to Yavuz.
